Dogs are more than just pets. Sometimes they are our keepers. In a dangerous situation, a loyal dog will often stay and fight for its owner. They are truly a man’s best friend! Read about the five heroic tales of dogs who saved their owner’s lives.

Kelsey to The Rescue

Kelsey, the Golden Retriever, was hailed as a hero in Michigan following her brave unwavering attempt to save her owner Bob. On a particularly cold new year’s eve, Bob stepped out of his house without nothing but a pajama on to load up on firewood. Unfortunately for Bob, he slipped on ice and broke his neck late into the night. With the closest neighbor a quarter of a mile away, Bob’s cry for help goes unheard. For 20 hours, Kelsey laid on top of Bob to keep him warm and licked his face to keep him conscious. After a grueling 20 hours, a neighbor heard Kelsey’s howl and soon discovered Bob in a hypothermic condition. The neighbor frantically called 911, and thankfully, Bob lived to tell the tale.

The Smart-thinking Sadie

59-year-old Brian Myers has everything to be thankful for especially for his recently adopted German Shepherd, Sadie. On the evening of Jan 16, Brian suffered a stroke and lodged himself between his bed and the wall. Brian made an attempt to stand up. However, he soon came to the realization that he had lost all feelings on the left side of his body. Unable to get up and reach his cell phone to call for help, he was in a state of panic. Sadie heard the commotion in the bedroom and rushed to Brian’s side. Brian took the opportunity to grab a hold of Sadie’s collar, and to his surprise, Sadie began to pull him in the direction of his phone. Eventually, Brian was able to reach his phone to dial 911. Thanks to Sadie and the first responders, Brian received the care he needed. From this whole ordeal, Brian’s bond with Sadie strengthened. She saved his life, and I’m sure queen Sadie has received lots of hugs and treats for saving the day!

Small but Mighty

2-year-old Starla is a Yorkshire Terrier. She may be tiny, but she’s a force to be reckoned with. On a quiet day at 3 pm, The owner’s niece and Starla were home alone. In a surprise breaking-and-entering, two armed robbers forced their way into the modest home. In the wake of the assault, the tiny Starla charged at the robbers and fiercely defended the little girl from harm. She barked and attacked the intruders to allow time for the young girl to escape. The young girl left the scene frightened but otherwise unscathed. However, for Starla, it wasn’t as fortunate. Starla was injured by multiple bullets during the assault. However, regardless of the extent of her injuries, she continued to attack the robbers until they finally fled the scene. Since the attack, Starla’s heroic story has been circulating around the internet. We now know to never doubt a small dog’s potential because they might be tiny, but they too can be fierce as a lion!

The Furry Angel

We all have a guardian angel by our side. For Austin, his dog Angel was truly his guardian angel. This lucky boy from Canada was enjoying a nice afternoon gathering firewood in his yard when out of nowhere, a cougar attacked. Angel, the family Golden Retriever, bravely positioned herself between the cougar and the boy and fought for him. In the midst of the battle, the 11-year-old quickly ran away to alert his parents. When the police arrived at the scene, they shot the cougar and subdued the aggressive animal. The boy survived the attack unharmed, but unfortunately, Angel suffered horrific injuries all over her body. Thankfully, Angel was able to make a full recovery. After the event, the boy recounted Angel’s abnormal behavior on that day. He told the news that Angel had been especially clingy to him that day. I guess, in a way, dogs can sense things we can’t. Let’s give a round of applause to Angel, the guardian Angel.

Pacer Vs. Mama Bear

In 2016, a 46-year-old British Columbia man went for a run at a local provincial park. On the trail, the pair unknowingly disturbed the nearby mother-and-two-cub trio. The mother immediately jumped into action to protect her cubs, and before the man could react, the mama bear attacked. In the midst of the attack, the man’s companion, Pacer, sprung into action. He ruthlessly bit down on the mama bear to keep the agitated mother off of his owner. After multiple attempts, Pacer was able to lure the bear away. The man saw his only opportunity to escape the attack, and he ran to the parking lot and looked for help. Nearby patrons saw the 46-year-old with severe injuries to his hand and called 911. Because of Pacer, the 46-year-old made a full recovery. This man sure was lucky!
