Five Unusual Animal Friendships
The Great Story of Kate and Pippin
On the Springett farm, the unusual sight of an affectionate odd couple, Kate the Great Dane and Pippin the baby fawn, attracted the attention of adoring fans. The pair would spend their days running around the Springett farm, playing, cuddling, and grooming each other. However, behind their love for each other is a story that will melt your heart.
It all began when the dying fawn showed up on Isobel Springett’s doorstep. Though Isobel was empathetic towards the helpless little one, she knew from experience to not interfere with nature’s process. Isobel anticipated the mother’s return. Unfortunately, after three days, the mother was still nowhere in sight. With the young fawn growing weaker by the day, Isobel took Pippin in. Isobel recalled that and said, “as soon as Kate laid eyes on Pippin, she was in love.”
Kate was a dedicated mother to Pippin from the start. She would always tend to Pippin without letting the young fawn out of her sight. However, as young Pippin slowly matured into an adult, Kate knew to give Pippin more space. Eventually, Pippin was mature enough to leave the farm to lead an independent life. Regardless, Pippin never forgot Kate. She would often come back and visit her old pal for old times’ sake. Click here to see the video of Kate and Pippin by Real Wild.
Cupcake and Bo
Cupcake and Bo were bound together by a bad start in life. Their unlikely friendship was a result of their natural shortcomings. Cupcake was born with crooked legs leaving her unable to walk, whereas, Bo was an off-duty cattle herding dog who could not herd due to car sickness.
Sadly for Cupcake, her condition had caused her mother to reject her. Unable to nurse, Cupcake was left to die. However, thanks to Genia Kay Meyer, the young calf had a loving family waiting to adopt her. Perhaps Cupcake and Bo’s shortcoming was truly meant to be because as soon as the pair were introduced to each other, their friendship never looked back.
Bo truly loves his pal as he would spend every waking moment by Cupcake’s side. He would play and cuddle with Cupcake as if they were from the same species. It’s amazing that this pair had formed such a strong bond, and even to this day, the pair can be seen frolicking at the Meyer’s residence.
Rommi and Andreyka
At the Siberian Zoo in Irkutsk, Russia. The friendship between a 4-year-old husky and a 10-month old bear cub caused quite the hype among the locals. The cub was originally a rescue that had been taken into the facility in a weak condition. However, after weeks of companionship from Andreyka and rehabilitation from the staff. Rommi quickly regained his strength. Since their first introduction, the pair had been spotted playing and wrestling with each other. Who knows what their friendship will bring? Bella and Tarra
At the Elephant Sanctuary in Nashville, Tara the elephant formed a special friendship with Bella. The Sanctuary workers bore witness to this amazing story and saw the development of this unusual elephant-dog friendship.
Their tale began when Bella accidentally wandered into the elephant sanctuary. Rather than causing a stir among the elephant herd, Bella was immediately accepted by Tarra for no other reason except pure love. Unfortunately for Tarra, their longtime friendship was cut short. In 2011, Bella was involved in a suspected coyote attack at the sanctuary.
When the Sanctuary worker discovered Bella’s body, it was apparent that the body had been moved from the original place of attack. According to the worker, Tarra had bloodstains at the bottom of her trunk, he theorized that Tarra had attempted to carry Bella’s lifeless body to safety. However, sadly for Tarra, it was too late to save her friend. Following Bella’s death, Tarra mourned and fell into depression. This story may have a tragic end, but the decade-long friendship serves as a reminder that animals are very much capable of forming deep connections with animals other than their own species.
Charlie and Jack
A 24-year-old horse, Charlie, was rescued with a blind eye. Luckily for Charlie, his trusted pal, Jack, stepped up to the plate and took on the role of being his seeing-eye goat. Every day, Jack would patiently walk on the side of Charlie’s remaining good eye and lead him to a prime location to graze on the freshest grass. After the pair is done with their adventure, Jack would then walk slowly and lead Charlie back to safety.
The old pals were two peas in a pod as Jack knew Charlie like the back of his hand. In fact, Jack knew Charlie so well that he could distinguish the sound of Charlie’s steps from other horses. The duo continued to go about their daily walks until one day, Charlie had lost his remaining eye. To the owner’s surprise, somehow Jack knew, and he began to change his leading approach by walking directly in front of Charlie. For 16 years, the pair stood by each other’s side. As much as Charlie needed Jack, Jack also needed Charlie. The pair were made for each other.
