Why Dogs Eat Poo?
As a dog mom, I am immune to strange dog behaviors, but eating poop? How can anyone in their right mind put their own making in their mouths and enjoy it? To examine it further, I came to the conclusion that dogs eat poo for various reasons.
Instinctive behavior
Instinctively, Mama dogs eat their pup’s poo to cover up the track in an attempt to throw off incoming predators, and yes, also to keep the den clean. However, puppies see, puppies do. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, in other words, young pups often copy this instinctive behavior from their mothers.
Boredom
Yes, you read that right! Dogs play with their poo out of boredom. Take your dog out for a nice long walk, or mentally stimulate your dog with fun training games. This will solve the “boredom poo eating problem.”
Stress and anxiety
This might sound ridiculous, but a stressed dog can resort to eating poop. For such cases, consult with a dog trainer and identify triggers that cause stress and anxiety in your dog.
To identify the cause of this strange behavior, keep your dog’s mental state in check.
